Safety

Our candles should satisfy your hunger for all things scary, but they shouldn't BE scary.

Candles can be dangerous things, so we emphatically encourage you to take the following safety precautions:

  • Only burn candles when you're around to attend to them. Be especially careful not to fall asleep while candles are still lit.
  • Never leave candles or matches where children can reach them.
  • Keep lit candles away from items like curtains and decorations that can interfere with the flame and catch fire.
  • Our tins can get hot, so be sure to put them on a surface where they won't melt what's underneath them. If you've got a Blessèd Hex candle on that heirloom antique table from Grandma, be sure to slide a coaster or another insulator underneath it so the finish doesn't get marred.
  • Don't try to pick up or move lit candles with your bare hands, as the tin can be hot to the touch.
  • Always keep the wick trimmed to 0.25" and keep the wax clean of debris like matches and chunks of burned wick. Not only will this help your candle burn more evenly and last longer, but it will help lower your risk of a safety incident.
  • Never burn a candle for more than four hours at a time. After four hours, carefully extinguish the candle, let it cool for two hours, and trim the wick as needed before lighting again.

For your candles to burn evenly and last as long as possible, we recommend you wait to light a candle for the first time until you're able to give it a supervised burn long enough for the wax to melt to the container's edge, generally 1 hour for our 2 oz candles and 3 hours for our 8 oz candles.

Safe lighting!
